BUD ANDERSON

 

 

Clarence E Bud Anderson arrived in England with the 357th Fighter Group in 1943. This was the first fighter group to be equipped with the Mustang. It wasn't long before Anderson was on the score sheet during one of his first missions to Berlin, dog fighting with a bunch of 109s that had set upon a B-17. On the 29th of June 1944 while leading his squadron they ran into a bunch of FW190s, Anderson shot down the leader followed by two more. Anderson scored 12 of his victories during his first tour. After a short rest spell Anderson returned for a second tour this is when the 357 had there big day on the 27th of November they with the 353 took on a huge formation of German fighters some 200 or more, in this encounter Anderson added another 3 to his score.

  Anderson later commanded  fighters in Korea and Vietnam. He retired from the Air Force on the 31st March 1972. Bud Anderson finished the War with 16 victories.
