CHUCK YEAGER

 

 

 

Chuck Yeager was born on the 13th of February 1923 in Myra West Virginia USA. Charles was his first name but he always went by 'Chuck', Yeager entered the U.S Air Corps in September 1941 and he entered flight training and graduated on the 10th of March 1943, at Luke field Arizona. Yeager was assigned to the 363rd Fighter Squadron of the 357th Fighter Group. Yeager was shot down flying his P-51 on the 5th of March 1944, evading capture he returned to England. Chuck Yeager downed 11.5 enemy aircraft during the War. Following the War Yeager became a test pilot and on the 14th of October 1947 flying the Bell XS1 Yeager became the first man to break the sound barrier. During the Vietnam conflict Yeager flew combat missions once more. He retired from the Air Force as a Brigadier General on the 1st off March 1975.
