Herbert Rollwage shot down more four engined allied 'heavies' than any other Luftwaffe pilot an incredible 44. Rollwage was born in 1916, he joined 5/JG 53 in early 1941 fighting on the Eastern front and then later to the Mediterranean theatre. By the Autumn of 1943 Rollwage returned to the West to combat the continual stream of heavy bombers pounding Germany, by April 1944 Rollwage had shot down 53 aircraft and was awarded the Ritterkreuz later that year. Rollwage would continue to score against the Allies and was later commissioned as a Lieutenant, as the War was coming to an end Rollwage scored his 102nd victory. Herbert Rollwage finished the War with 102 victories, all but 11 of his 'kills' were Western aircraft.
