Ivan Nikolaevich Kozhedub

 

Kozhedub met the enemy on no less than 126 occasions. He had great success as a fighter pilot flying the LA-5FN and the LA-7, the public adored him, posters were everywhere telling people 'to fight like Kozhedub' He was the ideal role model for young Soviet pilots to follow. Kozhedub was awarded the HSU (Hero Of The Soviet Union) three times. He finished the War as a Major and in 1948 he commenced flying jet fighters. Kozhedub also flew MIG-15s over Korea in 1951. He went on to become a Colonel-General of Aviation and was promoted to Air Marshall in 1985. Kozhedub finished the War with 62 victories.
