Otto Kittel was the most successful pilot of JG 54 with 267 victories. This little known fourth ace of all time was born in 1917, he joined 2/JG 54 in 1941. Kittels  score began to rise steadily in 1943, On the 29th of October he was promoted to Leutant and on the 14th April 1944 he confirmed his 152nd kill. By November of that year he had reached his 230th victory. He finished the war with rank of Oberleutnant, while flying his 583rd mission attacking Shturmoviks Kittels plane smashed into the ground. To this day it is a mystery on how he died, some say he was hit by flak others say the russian Shturmovik gunner shot him down.
