Rudolf Ehrenberger was born in Austria, he joined 6/JG 53 as an Oberfeldwebel in the Mediterranean theatre, where he remained for two years. He then fought the US bombers and fighter escorts in the skies over Europe. On the 8th of March 1944 after scoring his 49th victory, his plane was hit by fire from escorting US fighter planes, Ehrenberger bailed out of his crippled plane, as he drifted toward Earth, one of the Allied fighter escorts fired at the German officer and killed him. Rudolf Ehrenberger was awarded the Ritterkruez posthumously on the 4th of April 1944. |
